Cape Coast, May 28, GNA – A twenty-year-old unemployed, who robbed a national service personnel at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) of her cash and mobile phones, was on Thursday slapped with a 16- year jail term by a Cape Coast Circuit Court.
The accused Isaac Kofi Grumah who appeared sorry for his shameful act was charged with two counts of threatening to kill and robbery, pleaded guilty to the charges.
Chief Inspector, Charles Hevi, told the Court presiding over by Mrs. Afia Adu-Amankwa that the complainant, Abigail Adom Nyankey, a national service personnel lived in the same vicinity with the accused person at Kwaprow, a suburb of Cape Coast.
However, on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at about 0500 hours, the accused stood at the back of the window of the complainant, cut the net behind the window and threatened her that he was carrying a gun and that the complainant should not move from her room or else he would shoot and kill her.
He then forced the complainant to surrender to him her iPhone valued at 800.00cedis, one Techno mobile phone valued at 60.00cedis and a cash of 20.00cedis.
The accused later used the complainant’s phone to call relatives and friends and demanded 500.00 cedis and threatened to kill her if his request was not granted within the shortest possible time.
A complainant was later made to the police and through police intelligence, the accused was arrested and the police retrieved the victim’s cell phone sim card from his bag.
