Tarkwa (W/R), April 19, GNA – There was a fire outbreak at the Goil Filling Station opposite the Ghana Commercial Bank branch in Tarkwa last Tuesday evening.
The fire, which lasted for a few minutes, was brought under control by the timely intervention of the staff of the station.
Mr Emmanuel Dolvo, Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) of the Ghana National Fire Service office in Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.
He said on April 17, at about 1800 hours, a man went to the Goil Filling Station to buy fuel into a container.
Mr Dolvo said while the fuel attendant was discharging the fuel into the container she realized it was leaking. She therefore decided to pour it into a new container to avoid any accident.
He said in the process a vehicle which was parked closer to the fuel pump with ignition on with excessive emission from the exhaust pipe flashed out causing the fire.
Mr Dolvo said when his office received the information and rushed to the scene with its fire tender, the staff of the station had already used a fire extinguisher to quench the fire.
He said his officers then flashed the area with water and waited for hours to ensure that properties as well as those living around were save.
ADO Dolvo assured the residents of Tarkwa that the GNFS would investigate the issue to ascertain what really sparked the fire.
He cautioned drivers to put off their engines, mobile phone and avoid smoking when they visited any filling station to purchase fuel and liquefied petroleum gas.
Mr Dolvo warned fuel attendants to ensure that drivers adhered strictly to these rules and regulations.
