Koforidua, April 16, GNA - The Potters House, a branch of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), in Koforidua, at the weekend registered more than 500 needy persons under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
As early as 0800 hours scores of families, mostly women from Koforidua and its environs, had converged at the Potters House to be registered to enable them to access healthcare through the NHIS.
As a side attraction, about 10 bales of clothing, shoes and bags were distributed to the mothers and children.
Reverend Anastasia Agyeman Boateng, the Head Pastor of the Potters House, said despite the importance of the NHIS, many people failed to register their wards onto it.
She said on many occasions she had encountered mothers whose children were sick but could not send them to health facilities because they had no health insurance cards and could neither foot the hospital bills.
“Touched by this plight I decided, with the support of my family and other members of the church, to pay for 800 people to be registered onto the NHIS,” she told the GNA in an interview.
A 38-year old widow who came to register for herself and her six children said she could not afford to pay the GH¢ 25.00 premium and five cedis each for the children to get registered and thanked Rev. Boateng for the kind gesture.
