Kumasi, April 12, GNA – Youth Empowerment Synergy (YES), an NGO focused on youth development, has called for the government to move quickly on the review of the national youth policy.
Its’ Policy and Advocacy Manager, Obaa Akua Konadu, said this was necessary to provide the opportunity to deepen the involvement of the young people in decisions affecting their welfare and development.
They should have space to actively participate in the development process both at the local and national levels.
Obaa Konadu was speaking at a youth policy dialogue held in Kumasi by the NGO.
It brought together government officials, youth groups, civil society organizations and students.
The goal was to strengthen multi-stakeholder engagement to make sure that the policy reflected the genuine wishes and aspirations of the Ghanaian youth.
Obaa Konadu underlined the eagerness of her organization to encourage increased youth participation in the formulation of policies and decisions that affected them.
YES is currently undertaking a number of projects including “Improving youth participation in public policy decision making”, “Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) youth action campaign” and “Youth leadership for social change”.
Mr. George Orwell Amponsah, the Ashanti Regional Director, National Youth Authority (NYA), applauded YES for putting the general good of the country’s youth at the heart of everything it had been doing.
He suggested that it widened its activities to cover young people in rural and deprived communities, as well as, those who could not receive formal education to enable them to have inputs into the new national youth policy.
