Zebilla, April. 09, GNA – The Bawku West District Assembly in the Upper East Region has completed the renovation of two schools whose roofs were ripped up by torrential rains and rainstorm.
The renovation takes out the predicament pupils and teachers of Timonde primary school as well as Kukuruzua primary and Junior High Schools in the District experienced studying under scorching sunrays.
The situation then, pressured school authorities to cut short contact periods due to the deplorable conditions of the structures. With no canopies or shades as an option, lessons came to an end each day the sun became hot.
Aside the renovation, the schools which were not connected to the national grid had been hooked up to improve teaching of Information Communication Technology (ICT).
District Chief Executive of the Bawku West, Madam Victoria Ayamba said the two schools and 11 others in the district had their roofs ripped up during last year rainstorms.
According to her, the assembly was able to rehabilitate schools that were not hard hit by the storms and awarded an entire renovation of the Timonde and Kukuruzua primary and JHS, and said the renovation of the schools fulfilled government’s policy on free education at the basic level.
The DCE added that the assembly had mobilised resources from the Common Fund to procure furniture for some schools, while plans to construct classrooms to improve on educational delivery in the district was underway.
Madam Ayamba expressed optimism that efforts by the assembly will reflect in pupils performance in the district.
Head teachers of the schools who could not hide their joy following the renovation of the schools after clarion calls to salvage the plight of teachers and pupils thanked the assembly for the timely intervention.
The Bawku West District Assembly Engineer, Mr Paul Musah said the Assembly would strictly monitor activities of contractors to ensure that contracts awarded to them were executed to specification and quality before final payments were made after six months of handing over.
The Bawku West District Assembly further handed over renovated office space of the district education directorate which was in a deplorable condition.
