Kumasi, Feb. 26, GNA - A three-day career fair to keep engineering students abreast of job opportunities pertaining to their course of study, has been held in Kumasi.
The programme - the seventh edition, to be organized by the College of Engineering, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), brought together about 23 companies and organizations from both the public and private sectors.
They took turns to provide detailed information on job prospects and opened their doors to students for internship and attachment programmes.
Professor Mark Adom-Asamoah, Provost of the College, said their academic programmes had been carefully calibrated to meet the demands of industry.
He said their goal was to bridge the gap between academia and industry as they went the extra mile to give engineering students competitive advantage on the job market.
He added that in line with this, it had become compulsory for all third-year students to do internship - to have hands-on experience of what they had been taught.
Prof Adom-Asamoah spoke of plans to develop a technology park to promote ideas-generation by students and how these could be used to help address engineering-related challenges in the country.
The College, he said, had also been organizing refresher courses for building inspectors, solar energy technicians and other professionals to improve their competence.
The participating companies included National Communications Authority (NCA), Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Volta River Authority (VRA), MTN and Vodafone Ghana, Huawei Technologies and Unilever Ghana.
