Yeboah wins Tafo Open Golf Championship

He was followed by Maxwell Owusu with 145 gross, with Christopher Mbii placing third with 153 gross, Patrick Tender came fourth with 156 gross while Abubakar Nafiu took the fifth position with 160 gross. 

In the Ladies encounter, Felicity Okyei Gyeabour came first with 182 gross, Elizabeth Captan followed in the second position with 183 gross, while Beatrice Vetsch-Bempong placed third with 185 gross.

In the Men’s Group B Handicap segment, Collins Owusu came first with 148 net, Dr F.K. Frempong placed second with 151 net, Godfred Sowuah took the third position with 157 net while P.A. Sersah came fourth with 159 net.

The Scratch Group A edition reserved for Handicap 6-14 golfers, saw Christian Mbii lifting the trophy with 144 gross,

Eric Bonah placed second with 149 gross, Thywill Komladzei took the third position with 150 gross while V. Komboso came fourth with 151 gross.

The two-day 36-Hole Scratch competition opened to amateur golfers throughout the country, was sponsored by Omni Fert Limited with support from The Beige Group.

Mr Mike Aggrey, President of the Ghana Golf Association (GGA), said the association would roll out initiatives, which would attract the youth to go into the sport.

He said out of the population of Ghana, only 1,935 play golf of whom 90 are ladies and 100 were youth.

Mr Aggrey said the initiative that would be rolled out, would see 3,000 people playing the game of whom the number of ladies would shoot from 90 to 150 and about 200 youth taking part in the game. 

He commended Omni Fert Limited for sponsoring the competition and called for more sponsorship from the corporate bodies and institutions.

Mr Dominic Donkor, Business Development Manager of Omni Fert Limited said the company as part of its corporate social responsibility, decided to support the promotion and the development of the sport in the country.

He said the company not only support sports development but also support farmers in diverse ways to increase their yields.

Mr Donkor expressed the hope that the company would continue to support the promotion and the development of the game.

Nii Ashitey, Captain of the Tafo Golf Club urged members to take active interest in the activities of the club.
