He said the current land administration system was one of the most critical root causes of problems confronting Ghana in general and urban areas in particular.
“As we are all aware, the land administration system in Ghana today is confronted with multiplicity of challenges in the areas of multiple on allocations, haphazard, uncontrolled and uncoordinated physical development in our cities, indeterminate boundaries, cumbersome process to register land as well as land litigation just to mention a few,” Alhaji Adjei-Sowah said.
“It is worthy to mention that we cannot as a country develop and win investors’ confidence if effective and efficient land governance and administration is not put in place to forestall the challenges confronting the land sector,” he added.
He urged professional bodies such as the GhIS and LSAG to assist in city management; declaring that “This is your city! This is my city! This is our city!”
Mr Tedanu, who is also the FIG Commissioner in-charge of Spatial Planning and Development, said the Working Week was going to afford them the platform to showcase the rich Ghanaian culture, to bring in potential investments and to expose Ghana to the rest of the world.
He said it would also engender immeasurable avenues for growth and evolution of the surveying profession in Ghana; stating that “For this reason and more, it therefore, becomes paramount that we all get involved”.
He urged government agencies, the private sector and industries to lend their support by way of heavy financial backing to this worthy endeavour by surveyors; one that would open the frontier to many possibilities for all sectors.
Mr Kwesi Agyeman, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, said the hotel and tourism industry would adequately prepare towards hosting the large number of the participants who would be arriving in the country for the 2021 edition of the FIG Work Week.
He said the road leading to the Kakum National Park, which is one of the famous tourism destinations in the country, was not in good shape and therefore needed rehabilitation.
