Lawra (U/W), May 3, GNA – The Coalition for Change (C4C) has distributed over 7000 assorted items to the poor and vulnerable in various communities of the Upper West Region.
The Christian African Relief Trust (CART), a United Kingdom (UK) based charity organisation, donated the items to C4C for distribution to people in dire need of basic life support items.
The items included second hand clothing, household items, stationary, uniforms, sports kits and toys for school children as well as medical supplies to various community health centres.
Madam Rubby Yap, Executive Director of C4C, during one of the distribution exercises in Lawra, said the gesture which was an annual affair in the Wa Municipal, has been extended to cover many remote communities within five additional districts in the region.
At Lawra, Madam Yap together with Mr Daniel Banuoku, Deputy Director of the Center for Indigenous and Organisational Development (CIKOD), donated six wheelchairs and four clutches to members of the Lawra branch of the Ghana Federation of the Disable (GFD).
Some bicycles, school uniforms, sports kits and second hand clothing among others were also distributed to some pupils in the Lawra basic school, the Lawra Methodist Orphanage and some poor and vulnerable persons in the community.
Madam Yap commended the long standing partnership between the two organizations, noting that CART in 2014 supported C4C in its women empowerment project and this benefited 105 women farmers from the Sissala East, Lambussie-Karni and Wa West.
She said the beneficiaries received training on soya and maize production as well as soap making while 80 other farmers in Kpalworgu in the Wa East District also received training on bee keeping.
“We thank CART for continuing to believe in us and our objectives; together with them and their supporters in the UK, we will continue to make a difference in the lives of the people we serve especially the school children and the farmers in the far flung communities”, she said.
Mr Edmund Tolob, President of the Lawra branch of the GFD, thanked C4C and CART for the kind gesture, adding that through the donation some of them who had difficulties in moving around would now be relieved of such concerns.
He appealed for more support from other benevolent organisations and philanthropists to come to their aid as they seek to play their expected roles in their families and communities.
Mrs Marjorie Nintori, a Principal Midwifery Officer at the Lawra Methodist Integrated Health Project/Orphanage, expressed gratitude to the donors, saying “with that kind of support, the facility would be able to meet the needs of its clients”.
Mr Banuoku commended C4C and its partners for the key role they play in adding value to the lives of the poor and vulnerable persons in the region.
He said the Lawra area is vast with many poor and vulnerable people and appealed to C4C for more support to make life better for all.
