Ashaiman (GAR), May 2, GNA - The Tema Development Corporation (TDC) has been urged to release Ashaiman lands under its supervision to the people for developmental projects.
Mr Albert Boakye Okyere, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s nominee for the Municipal Chief Executive position for Ashaiman, said it was about time the TDC released their lands to give the Municipality space to operate.
Mr Okyere stated that Ashaiman could not take the “whips” of TDC whiles the community does not enjoy anything from the Corporation.
He made the call on Monday at a public forum organized by Mr Ernest Norgbey, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashaiman dubbed: “Meet your constituents”.
He lamented that Ashaiman was congested and there was the need for TDC to make available to them whatever land reserve that was still with it.
Mr Okyere who was the first MCE for the Municipality when it was carved out of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly in 2008, called on Assembly Members, the MP and other stakeholders to fully join in the fight for the release of Ashaiman lands to ensure development in the area.
Mr Norgbey on his part appealed to Assembly Members to unanimously confirm Mr Okyere as the MCE to pave way for accelerated development.
According to him, with his experience as the first MCE of the area, the nominee was in a better position to bring the needed development in the municipality since he knew the challenges and needs of the people.
Touching on the forum, the MP said it was an initiative to inform his constituents on the happenings in Parliament and governance as a whole.
Mr Norgbey added that it also served as a platform to take feedback from the people to Parliament to enable him push for legislations that would benefit them.
He gave the assurance that he would liaise with Assembly to ensure development in the area especially, the improvement in security, sanitation and discipline.
