Ms. Faustina Osei Prempeh, Executive Director of the Rights and Responsibilities Initiative Ghana (RRIG), an NGO, committed to the protection of children, said as the society strived to create space and opportunities for their growth and development, they could not afford to let themselves down and mess up their lives.
She was speaking at a forum held at Bekwai in the Bekwai Municipality by the RRIG with support from the Ghana NGO Coalition on the Rights of the Child, to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day.
In attendance were traditional leaders, women groups, school children and the general public.
She told them to be disciplined, accept to put premium on hard work and integrity.
Ms. Prempeh asked that they focused on their education, adding that, it was the path to a better and a more rewarding future.
She used the occasion to urge parents to give children, especially, young girls the confidence to boldly speak about any abuses suffered.
They should not keep such abuses to themselves and become traumatized.
Madam Aba Oppong, Chairperson of the Board of the NGO, said more should be done to protect children from bad peer influence.
The pressure of work, she indicated should be no excuse for parents to abdicate their duty of spending quality time with their children.
