The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has called for the immediate end of all forms of lawlessness and destruction of property and attempts of taking over public offices.
It also called on security and law enforcement agencies to handle with dispatch all cases of infringement brought to their attention.?
A statement issued and signed by its President, Mrs Efua Ghartey, the association condemned?reports of pockets of violent attacks, including gunshots, which resulted in the unwarranted deaths of some persons and extended its condolences to the bereaved families.?
The?statement urged all Ghanaians to maintain and jealously guard the unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence that have been the hallmark of the country despite differences in opinions and views.?
The statement congratulated John Dramani Mahama, the President-elect, on his victory, saying” the good people of Ghana have overwhelmingly?spoken in his favour.
The GBA is hopeful that the President-elect will continue to champion the growth of the democratic?tenants the people of Ghana so?cherish.”
It commended all candidates in the just ended Presidential and Parliamentary election especially Dr Mahamudu Bawumi, the Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who proffered?a timeous concession.
The statement commended the Electoral Commission, the Diplomatic Community, security agencies, polling station agents and all stakeholders, including election observers, both domestic and international for working tirelessly to ensure the integrity?and transparency?of the electoral process.
The Association also applauded citizens?who dutifully exercised their franchise.
“The GBA applauds and appreciates your exceptional enthusiasm and commitment?to shaping?the future?of our beloved country. May Ghana continue to be the bastion of democracy within Africa and beyond and may our nation become greater and stronger,” the statement said.
