Dr. Oheneba Owusu-Danso, the KATH CEO
THE FIGHT against the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in Kumasi and the Ashanti Region in general has received a major boost.
This follows the setting up of a new Covid-19 Testing Laboratory at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
The KATH Covid-19 Testing Laboratory boasts of all the necessary infrastructure and equipment to help expedite the testing of cases.
Management of the hospital has planned to officially start operations at the KATH Covid-19 Testing Laboratory today. Dr. Oheneba Owusu-Danso, the KATH CEO, has said the facility will help in the fight against the Covid-19 outbreak
He stated that the KATH Covid-19 Testing Laboratory had been created to complement the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR).
According to him, the KATH Covid-19 Testing Laboratory has already been validated by the KCCR and given the green light to start full operations.
Cutting the sod last Friday to reactive works on the abandoned Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) project at KATH by President Akufo-Addo, the KATH CEO said, “Mr. President as part of national efforts to help achieve same-day delivery of Covid-19 test results, I’m happy to announce that management has facilitated the Laboratory Services Directorate here to complete the set up of a Covid-19 testing laboratory.
“This follows over three weeks of preparation with all the necessary physical infrastructure, equipment and consumables and very good test runs by the KCCR. Full operations of the lab start on Monday.
“This will help relieve KCCR of some workload and also facilitate prompt delivery of results for the samples taken to KATH and those to be received from other facilities.”
He commended the KATH board and management for the numerous interventions that they had made to help staff of the hospital to be on top in the fight against the spread of the virus.
