Paul Amaning with the investors at the site
MARUBENI Corporation, a Japanese firm, has undertaken feasibility studies on some acres of land at Akyem-Asuom in the Kwaebibirem Municipality of the Eastern Region to allow for the establishment of an oil palm factory under Government’s ‘One District, One Factory’ initiative.
The project, expected to start soon, would be known as “Demkyembour Oil Palm Company Limited’’.
The investors from Japan visited the site to have first-hand information and to take decisions for partnership.
They visited one of the palm oil seedlings suite located at Asuom and the site earmarked for the construction of the factory.
The factory, when completed, would produce large quantities of oil palm for export.
Paul Kwabena Amaning, consultant to the project, and Managing Director of PMKF Ghana Limited, who brought the Japanese company to construct the firm, told BUSINESS GUIDE after touring the site with the Japanese officials, that the benefits would be enormous, with several jobs for the unemployed youth.
KCM, he indicated, had expertise in palm oil processing since it had been operating in Malaysia and Indonesia, adding that the factory, when completed would also venture into the manufacture of fertilizers and bio-fuels.
The Japanese delegation, led by Yuichi Makita, told the media that they would also establish some factories in other parts of the region.
He assured the residents in the area to support the projects.
The team has so far met with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Japan during a visit to discuss the way forward.
