Students of the Department of the Industrial Arts of the College of Arts and Built Environment of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) will on May 13 organise a runaway show to exhibit their works.
The fashion show which is expected to be graced by Mrs Samira Bawumia, Second lady of Ghana who is an alumna of the university, will showcase the creativity of the students.
It is part of activities marking the second KNUST Textile Exhibition and Fashion Show which is under the theme Rejuvenation.
As a prelude to the main event, the students showcased what could be described as a mini fashion show at the launch of the programme last Monday. The student also mounted art exhibition.
The students used mainly local textile to design outfits which had a touch of tradition and Africanism. All the dresses were designed by students from the department and modelled by their colleagues.
At the launch of the programme, the Head of Industrial Art Department, Dr Ebenezer Kofi Howard, said the event is to enable the students put into practice what they have learnt over the years.
“The course is structured to train the students to be self-reliant after school. The university would from the next academic year introduce two new courses to the existing ones being run by the college.”
The new courses are BA in Fashion Design and BA in Textile Design and Technology. This, he said, has become necessary because of the demands of the market.
