A team of Police Officers, led by the Director-General/Operations, COP/Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno on Monday 24th April, 2017 visited the scenes of murder at Nkonya Ahenkro and Nkonya Tayi on fact finding mission.
The team, delegated by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. David Asante-Apeatu, was accompanied by the Crime Scene Management Team from the CID Headquarters, Accra, which processed the crime scenes for further investigation.
On arrival at Nkonya Ahenkro, COP/Mr. C.T. Yohuno and his men were briefed about the entire situation by the Commander of the joint Police and Military Task Force enforcing the law in the area. In his brief, Capt. K.K. Kumi told the delegation that there was peace in the area.
He added that the Task Force was doing everything possible, including, intensive patrol, dialoguing with the chiefs and opinion leaders of the two communities, and public education to ensure that the prevailing peace is sustained.
COP/Mr. Yohuno and his team seized the opportunity to call on chiefs and elders of Nkonya Ahenkro, Nkonya Tayi and Alavanyo Kpeme to assure them of Police protection, and indepth investigation into the crime.
At Ahenkro, the paramount Queen mother, Nana Otubea II expressed her gratitude, and that of her people to the Police and the Military for the effort they have so far made to bring the situation under control, and also to visit the crime scenes. She asked the Police to ensure that the truth in the entire incident is established to bring a lasting solution.
The Regent of Nkonya Tayi, Nanain C.Y. Elletey also implored the Police and the Military to ensure that a lasting peace is brokered between the Nkonyas and Alavanyos to engender development of the area.
On his part, the Paramount Chief of Alavanyo, Togbega Tsedze Atakora VII charged the Police to process the perpetrators of this crime for court. He asserted that when people who commit crime are put before the court and punished, it will serve as deterrent to others. Togbega Atakora VII pledged his co-operation and support for the Police in their investigation.
The Director-General/Operation, COP/Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno expressed the condolences of the Police Administration to the bereaved families, and called on the people of Alavanyo and Nkonya to give peace a chance in order to benefit from the development that the government proffers.
COP/Mr. Christian Yohuno was accompanied by the Volta Regional Police Commander, ACP/Nana Asona Hinneh and his Deputy, ACP/Mr. Ebenezer Francis Doku; Commanding Officer/Formed Police Unit, ACP/Mr. George Tweneboah and his Deputy, DSP/Mr. Ackom; Commanding Officer/SWAT Unit, Supt/Mr. Theodore Hlomenu, and Director/Public Affairs, Supt/Mr. Cephas Arthur. They were supported by a combined team of personnel from the FPU and SWAT.
