The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has called on all working people and their families to remain calm as the nation awaits the Supreme Court verdict on the 2012 presidential election petition today.
The TUC urged workers to avoid acts of provocation and any wild jubilation aimed at taunting political opponents or a resort to heated arguments to express displeasure at the ruling.
A statement on the need to maintain the peace during and after the verdict which was signed by the Secretary General of the TUC, Mr Kofi Asamoah, said the TUC had, at all times, been in the vanguard of the struggle for democracy, peaceful co-existence and socio-economic justice for the good people of this country, as well as actively engaged in the peace efforts prior to the 2012 elections and their aftermath.
“We, as a people, have chosen the high road of democracy and respect for the rule of law and human dignity as the path for our socio-political and economic development and, once again, our faith in this path is to be tested.
“We are hopeful that Ghana will scale over this hurdle. We changed governments in 2000 and in 2008 under very threatening conditions but we managed, against all odds, to remain a peaceful and stable country. No matter the outcome of the petition, we must turn our attention to healing the soul of the country,†it advised.
