The Member of Parliament for Shama, Samuel Erickson Abekah has supported this year’s Eid-ul-fitr celebration in the Shama District with a presentation of foodstuff worth GHS35,000.
Presenting the assorted items including 96 bags of rice, 20 bags of sugar, 40 cartons of tin tomatoes and 40 cartons of edible oil, the MP commended the Muslim community for their everyday contribution towards fixing the country.
“As a constituency, we owe it a duty to celebrate with our Muslim fraternity. It is a time of sacrifice because to fast 30-days is not an easy task. As the name implies, it is a festival where you have to show love. Apart from getting closer to God, you have to present gifts to each other to foster a bond of unity between the Christian and Muslim as well as every resident of the Shama constituency. So the goods I’m presenting today is the MP’s contribution to support our Muslim brothers’ [and sisters’] Eid-ul-Fitr celebration. This includes 96 bags of rice, 20 bags of sugar, 40 cartons of tin tomatoes and 40 cartons of edible oil, all totalling GHS35,000. This is to assure you that we are behind you and appreciate your sacrifice to the community and to the nation, and together we can fix the country“, he said.
The MP for Shama also hinted at plans to get Shama an Islamic and Arabic SHS.
“We have already made plans and one or two contacts to get Shama an Islamic SHS. We have only one public secondary school in the whole Shama constituency or District, and the idea of getting another secondary school, this time, an English-Arabic is a laudable one. This is because the need to get the various religious groups involved in education is very key to ensuring that our youth imbibe morality. So I will use my good office to ensure that the project becomes a reality in the course of my tenure to give Shama a second secondary school which is English Arabic“, he said.
Receiving the items, the Chairman of the Shama District Council of Zongo Chiefs, Chief Mahmoud thanked the MP for Shama, Samuel Erickson Abekah for his support towards the Muslim community.
Chief Mahmoud however called for peace and unity across Shama throughout the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations and after.
