Statistics from the Ghana National Fire Service for the first quarter of 2021 has shown a 50% decline in fire incidents in the Bono Region as compared to the same period in 2020.
Per the data, fire cases in the first quarter of 2020 reduced from 225 to 104 in the same period in 2021.
The Bono Regional Fire Service attributed this to the immense sensitization of the populace on fire safety.
Speaking to Citi News during an inspection of the construction of a new office block for the Ghana National Fire Service in Sunyani, Bono Regional Commander for the Service, DCOP Heroine S. Boakye, said she’s hopeful residents will not let their guard down on fire safety.
“As of this year 2021, we have recorded 104 which shows the hard work we’ve been doing because, with fire, we have a negative correlation. If there is less fire that means we are very effective. If we have more fires, then, it means we are not doing anything. The education that we are doing every day in the market and institutions is paying off. The radio education and program that we have been doing has brought down the fire outbreaks,” she said.
She advised residents of Bono to take the fire education seriously since “fire is no respecter of persons.”
