The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has attributed last night’s power outage to a technical problem.
The power transmission company in a statement explained that its conductor on the Tema-Accra East transmission line fell at Trasacco hence the outage.
“At 11:06pm on Saturday April 3, 2021, a conductor on the Tema – Accra East transmission line fell at Trasacco, leading to power outages in major parts of the Greater Accra region,” it said in the statement.
Many residents in Accra on Saturday night experienced unstable power supply. While some saw low current, others experienced power-line flicker.
Some residents also reported total power outage.
GRIDCo, while admitting the problem said it is working to fully restore power.
“The maintenance team was able to work round the clock to restore power to the Mallam, Achimota and Accra Central Bulk Supply Points (BSPs) at about 4:00am on Sunday April 4, 2021.”
Some residents on Sunday morning reported that their power had been restored but GRIDCo indicated in its statement that it has reduced power supply by about 50% in areas around Trasacco where the problem occured.
“Power supply has, however, been reduced to 50% in areas around Trasacco as the team works to permanently fix the fault.”

Saturday night’s power outage is one of the many experienced especially in the Greater Accra Region within the last three weeks, all attributed to technical issues.
GRIDCo has already said that Ghanaians should expect intermittent power outages in some parts of Accra and the Central Region due to some maintenance works that will be undertaken between April and July 2021.
