The special voting exercise came off smoothly in all the 11 constituencies in the Bono East Region on Tuesday, 1st December 2020, without any hitches.
The exercise started at exactly 7 am across all 13 polling stations in the region with a total of 5,225 voters casting their ballot out of 5,697 expected voters. This was a 92% turnout.
The EC organised a special voting exercise on Tuesday for 109,557 persons who will be engaged on December 7th.
Security services, journalists, and staff of the Electoral Commission took part in the exercise.
Speaking to Citi News, the Bono East Electoral Commission Director, Mr. Gilbert Dei stated that the high turnout and successful special voting exercise in the region was an indication that the 7th December elections will be successful and violence-free.
“What we saw [in the special voting] shows how prepared the Electoral Commission is for the main elections. The special voting went on smoothly and without any hitches throughout the region.”
He further stated that the EC had made provisions to ensure that EC and security officers who were unable to take part in the special voting to cast their ballot during the general elections on December 7.
“That issue has been solved by realigning or reshuffling the officers. So those who were to be on duty at faraway stations and were unable to take part in the special voting have been brought to stations closer to where they are to vote,” Mr. Dei stated.
Each constituency in the region had one polling station for the special voting with just Techiman South and Atebubu Amantin constituencies having two each as their number of registered voters was relatively larger.
