The Volta Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and some of his ministers who accompanied him during his two-day working visit to the Volta Region of engaging in “cheap politics.”
According to them, the President did not commission any project in the region. He also didn’t share his vision for the people of the region, the NDC claimed.
The president “does not have any project to commission, nor did he even cut sod for the commencement of any project. This is very disappointing and quite anti-climatic, to say the least!” the NDC’s Volta Regional Secretary, Kafui Agbleze told journalists.
When asked on the Citi Breakfast Show what projects the president has undertaken in the Volta Region, the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa said the people of the Volta region are benefiting from the likes of the Free SHS policy but the NDC questions that position, calling it unfortunate.
“So because the people of Volta are benefiting from a national policy that is supposed to be available to every other Ghanaian, the NPP government sees no need to take any policy decision that is tailored specifically to advance the growth of our region?”
The NDC in the Volta Region also said they are disappointed in the President for not Commissioning any 1D1F initiative in the Volta region claiming the NPP has no vision for the region.
“The people of the Volta region thought that, with the planned tour of the president of the region, he would unveil, or, at the very least, mention one factory that has been established in any of the districts in the Volta region. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Neither the president, Nana Akufo Addo, nor any of his accompanying Ministers of state like the Trades and Industry Minister, Allan Kwadwo Kyeremateng, could mention a single project or factory established under the 1D1F here in the Volta region; indeed, there’s no shred of evidence anywhere that one has been established” the statement stated.
The Party also accused the president of engaging in partisan politics in senior high and basic schools during his visit to the Volta Region, with the Ghana Education Service conspicuously quiet.
The NDC said it has verifiable evidence that junior and senior high school students were made to carry placards praising President Akufo-Addo under the scorching sun in Akatsi, an act they say is in “total disregard to the directive from the Ghana Education Service”.
The NDC also blamed the NPP administration for abandoning projects initiated under the erstwhile Mahama led administration after the president announced at Aflao during his tour that he, unlike the Mahama led administration is bent on continuing projects started by president Mahama.
The NDC, citing several roads and other infrastructure that has “been abandoned” including a modern abattoir that featured in a recent Citi News report, commending the president for continuing some projects started under President Mahama, said President Akufo-Addo places no priority on the people of the Volta Region.
“Ladies and gentlemen, in the spirit of nationality and fairness, we commend the president for the continuation of work on the Community Day SHS ( E- Block ) in Ketu South which was started by the Mahama government. It is, however, sad to note that after Nana Addo had prided himself with the continuation of work started by the Mahama government, he made a very revealing statement. He said he will continue projects that need to be continued. Fellow Voltarians, does the president, Nana Akufo Addo mean to tell the people of Tongu, who are competing with animals for water due to the abandoning of the five district water project, that he does not see it worthy to give them clean and quality drinking water?” The NDC said.
Touching on the Government’s failure to open the Ho Airport, A former Volta Regional Youth Organizer of the NDC and aide to former minister of transport, Egypt Kudoto said “Having worked with the transport ministry”, he knows that none of the funding for the Ho Airport was secured under the Mahama led administration and the failure of the NPP government to commission is only out of a desire to “deny people of the Volta Region their due”.
Dzifa Attivor’s aide, Egypt Kudoto, insisted that enough feasibility study was conducted before the siting of the Airport in Ho noting that it held the key to the opening of the Volta region to investors and eco-tourists from around the world.
The Deputy Volta Regional communications director of the NDC, Bright Kugbeaadzor, said persons like the current Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa whom, while in opposition condemned the construction of an Airport in Ho “obviously have a reason for not commissioning the Airport”.
