The Minister for Interior, Ambrose Dery has described as baseless, allegations of illegal recruitment into the security agencies.
He said the unpublished recruitment is targeted at clearing the backlog of potential recruits who bought forms in 2018.
The Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, James Agalga had alleged among other things that, the government is secretly recruiting its cronies into the Police, Fire, Immigration and Prison Services.
However, speaking to the media on the sidelines of the Third Crime Officers Conference, the Nandom legislator called on James Agalga to use the appropriate channels in seeking for answers on security matters.
“There is no truth in the fact that there is any secret recruitment anywhere. What is happening right now at the prisons Borstal is that apart from the Police that has the hospital, the other agencies depend on the health facility at the Immigration Service so that health facility conducts the medical examination and includes up to AIDS test. So they are there and they are going on. What they are doing is implementing their strategy to be able to cope with the unprecedented numbers. There are no secret recruitments. That place is a public place and it is during working hours and I want to assure you that Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo is not conducting any secret recruitment.”
“Secondly, I want to make it clear that yesterday I was in Parliament to answer questions from honourable Agalga so you can invite me to answer questions and I will advise that since he is a member of the parliamentary subcommittee we deal with these matters. These are security matters and it is not everything we can discuss but ladies and gentlemen I want to assure you that there are no secrets and President is doing what is best for Ghana,” Ambrose Dery added.
“Consequently, no applications have been received or processed in the e-recruitment portal of the Police Service which can be accessed online. And yet, certain individuals have been invited and are being taken through medical screening for purposes of getting them recruited,” he said.
