Member of Parliament for the Klottey-Korley Constituency of the Greater Accra Region Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has urged the youth of Adabraka not to imitate the negative things that politics come with.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings who is really keen on issues relating to the youth and their development indicated that the youth must grow up respecting each other and shun away from the bad pictures that are painted from the actions of politicians.
She addressed some youth at the Adabraka Youth Forum organized by a group known as the Youth for Effective Transformation (YES) at Adabraka, a suburb of Accra.
“When a society does not have respect for one another, it falls apart. I think we’ve gotten to a stage in our lives as a country where we think because of politics, we should be behind the custom of showing respect to one another. That is a bad example to set for the upcoming generation.”
“Please don’t look at the bad examples you see in politics and copy them. You all know what is right and wrong. As you grow up, don’t leave it behind. Take it with you because if you carry that forward, no leader will do the wrong thing and think they can get away with it because you will not accept it,” she stated.
She further asked the youth to desist from blaming politics for the vices in the country and play their part in building the nation.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings said, “Respect is the thing that keeps the society together. So that we don’t want a situation where people say because of politics, there is no order. Because of politics, people don’t respect their elders. Now it’s become the blame for everything. We need to decide how we want Ghana to be and everyone must do their part.”
The Youth for Effective Transformation (YES) is a non-profit, all-male youth group in Adabraka which has the transformation of the area as its main agenda. This includes activities like keeping the community clean and creating job opportunities for the youth in the area.
The Adabraka Youth Forum had the theme “Coordinating efforts for a better future; focus on youth empowerment” and featured dignitaries like the Deputy Director of Programs at the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Gladys Osman.
