The scheduled interrogation of the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, by officials of the Criminal Investigations Department, has been postponed to Wednesday, 19th June 2019.
This is to allow the Forensic Department of the Police Service to go through some communication devices of the NDC Chairman.
According to information relayed to Ofosu Ampofo’s legal team, the delay in assessing the devices is due to the absence of the Head of the Forensic Department.
A member of Mr. Ampofo’s legal team, Abraham Amaliba, said although his client is being investigated for conspiracy to commit crime, kidnapping and some other crimes, he has not been charged yet.
“The reason is that the head of the forensic team is not available so they have adjourned to Wednesday, next week at 2pm. The questions are still in their custody so I guess they want the head of the forensic team to have a look at it but it is not available according to them so they have adjourned.”
“They have handed over the gadgets to the team. We want to cooperate with the CID. We will return next week. For now, they are investigating,” Amaliba added.
Mr. Ofosu Ampofo is being investigated over the recent kidnapping and arson cases in the country.
The NDC Chairman was heard in a leaked audio allegedly inciting party supporters to frustrate the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa and the Chairman of the National Peace Council.
