Former President John Dramani Mahama has extended his condolence to families of persons who lost their lives in two accidents that occurred at Kintampo and Ekumfi Dunkwa.
Dozens of passengers died in an accident on the Techiman-Kintampo stretch, while ten others have been confirmed dead in another accident in Ekumfi Dunkwa on the Cape Coast stretch.
Mr. Mahama in a tweet called on various stakeholders including the DVLA and Police to devise measures that will ensure that roads in the country are “safer.”
“I have received confirmation of two horrific accidents at Kintampo and Ekumfi Dunkwa, reported to have claimed many lives. Another sad day for our dear country. Our roads are becoming killing fields and road safety continues to be a major challenge,” the President said in his tweet.
“All stakeholders on road safety- DVLA, drivers unions, Police, GRSC & Government must not relent in their efforts to make our roads safer. My condolences & that of the NDC go to the families of the deceased. Our prayers are also with those injured, wishing them a speedy recovery.”
Kintampo accident
The accident that occurred on the Techiman-Kintampo stretch involved two buses.
The Jaman Police Commander, DSP Ofori Boateng who confirmed the fatal accident to Citi News said the exact number of the dead is not immediately known.
10 dead in Ekumfi Dunkwa accident
A Metro Mass Transit bus heading to Accra from Takoradi also collided with a Nissan bus which was heading to Diaso from Accra.
The accident occurred at Ekumfi Dunkwa on the Cape Coast stretch.
The injured were rushed to the Winneba Trauma hospital and the Mankessim Catholic.
10 persons have been confirmed dead while many are injured in the accident.
