The National Health Insurance Scheme [NHIS] at Obuasi on Thursday embarked on a health walk to commemorate 15 years of dedicated service in the Obuasi Municipality.
A forum was held at the Obuasi Central Business District to officially launch the renewal policy known as NHIS mobile renewal and Digital Attention policy.
Speaking on the theme: The Path of UHC in Ghana: Innovation for a Sustainable NHIS.The Deputy Communications Director for Obuasi NHIS, Mr. Samson Botwe, took time to throw more light on the new policy which is making it possible for all NHIS users to dial *929# on their mobile phones and follow the procedure to renew their card.
He said the new policy does not allow for extra charges, as the old fees remain.
He indicated that services under the new renewal policy would be paid through mobile money at a cost of ?1:00, which would be deducted by the mobile network providers.
The Manager of the Obuasi NHIS, Mr. Confidence Owusu Kontoh, assured the gathering that the new policy seeks to provide Ghanaians with a more convenient and faster renewal process.
He further indicated that over 500 varieties of medicines would be displayed on the page with information on which medicines are covered by the Scheme.
Officials of NHIS at the forum went round to renew for many subscribers, and also gave them the necessary directions which would enable them to do self renewal when their subscriptions are out dated.
The subscribers were excited about the new process, saying they were often reluctant to renew their cards due to long queues they had to join at the NHIS Offices.
They thus lauded the government as well as the Ghana Health Service for such an advanced measures put in place to enhance effectiveness in the health delivery process.
