National Women’s Organiser elect of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hanna Bissiw has urged party members not to downplay the importance of her office and that of the National Youth Organiser.
“We have our vision, we have our mission, we have our strategy, and we have our goals,” she said on Eyewitness News.
According to her, disregard for the two wings of the party was partly to blame for the defeat of the NDC in the 2016 elections.Hanna Bissiw stressed that the party could not win back power without the contribution from the two wings.
“We also form part of the national executive. We are not outside the national executive so this impression that is being created that if you are part of the women’s wing you are nothing or if you part of the youth wing you are nothing. No.”
“They are two important wings of our political party, and I think these wings were affected during 2016 so we were not able to fly,” the Former Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture added.
Hanna Bissiw beat other contenders, Hajia Zaynab Mahama, who was the incumbent National Organizer as well as Hajia Tawa Zakari and Margaret Chiravira to take up the position as NDC Women’s organiser.
Two other persons who were elected as deputy women’s organizers were Maame Efua and Abigail Elorm.
The voting, which was held at the Pentecost Convention Centre at Gomoa Feteh in the Central Region, also saw the election of former Municipal Chief Executive of Akuapem North, George Opare Addo, as the National Youth Organizer of the party.
