An Uber driver identified as Nana, on Tuesday night allegedly assaulted a passenger at Dansoman.
This followed the refusal of the passenger to pay a fare charged by the driver, which was reportedly higher than the fare generated by the ride-hailing app.
The Dansoman Police station confirmed to Citi News that it is investigating the matter. The victim is demanding justice after she claimed several attempts to get a response from Uber Ghana on the incident proved futile.
This is despite Uber, on its website saying its “specially-trained incident response teams are available around the clock to handle any urgent concerns that arise.”
The victim narrated to Citi News that “the fair on his screen was GHc9.83 so I took out money to give to him and he didn’t understand why the fair was GHc9.83. He did his calculation and he I was like no, I am not going to pay you that.”
“Immediately I got down from the car, the next thing I know, he grabs me from behind and puts me on the floor, and he starts grabbing me and struggling with me,” the victim said.
Uber was launched in Ghana in 2016.
In Ghana, Uber is present in the national capital Accra, and the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi.
When a passenger is matched with a driver, the driver’s name, license plate number, photo, and rating are made available.
