The Tema Regional Police Command has apprehended a 33-year-old man, Joshua Asante for impersonation and fraud.
According to the Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer DSP Joseph Benefo Darkwah in a release sighted by Citi News “the suspect pretended to be a Senior Police Officer by the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and succeeded in persuading his victims who are mainly his church members to part with various sums of monies amounting to Six Thousand, One Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 6,100.00) under the pretext of securing enlistment for them into the Ghana Police Service.”
However, after failing to honour his promise, his victims reported him to the Ashaiman Police where he was apprehended.
The release noted that the Ashaiman Police arrested the suspect, who falsely claimed to be an IT expert from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on May 10, 2018.
DSP Darkwah said the suspect is currently in police custody assisting in investigations and will be arraigned before the court after investigations.
