Two persons died on Thursday night after a downpour collapsed a wall on them at Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region.
The deceased, Akua Brempomaa, 70, and Chris Adu Sarkodie, 8, died after the wall of their neighbour collapsed around 9:00pm.
The landlady of the house, Madam Winfred Biney, who confirmed the incident to Citi News expressed shock.
While denying that the wall around the house was weak, she admitted that the house laid on a slope and therefore the pressure from the running rainwater may have forced the wall to collapse.
“The wall wasn’t weak. It also wasn’t the rain; our house is a little sloppy so the rainwater comes from the upper part of the area. The force that came with the rainwater was massive. There is also massive erosion in the area. Our house is cemented so after every rain, there is some heap of sand and mud in our house. We have some gutters that drain the rainwater, but Wednesday’s rain water was so great that the gutter could not hold it.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue.
