Francis Xavier Sosu, lawyer for the victim at the center of the Marwako assault case, has said that she is gradually recovering and doing better.
According to him, a decision has been taken to allow her remain on admission where she can receive adequate care while the case is being heard.
He told Citi News’ Fred Tettey Djabanor that the victim, Evelyn Boakye’s composure and clarity, had improved hence ensuring that the trial goes on smoothly.
“She was permitted by the medical doctors to come to court Monday morning and after that she went back. You’d realize that her composure and clarity was better. Her responses were better under cross examination and it is clearly because her psychological and medical status has improved,” he said.
Evelyn Boakye was in court earlier on Monday March 20, 2017, to be cross-examined in the case brought against her Lebanese supervisor, Jihad Chaaban, who shoved her face into hot pepper.
The case has since been adjourned to Thursday, March 24, 2017.
Xavier Sosu said, “We are looking forward to her undergoing treatment until Thursday when we come back for further cross examination”
Evelyn Boakye is currently on admission at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital where she is receiving medical attention.
The accused, Jihad Chaaban, who is a Supervisor at the Abelemkpe branch of the Marwako Restaurant, locked Evelyn up in a room after dipping her face in blended pepper, leaving her with the burning and hurting eyes.
Jihad who has been arraigned has since pleaded not guilty to the three charges of causing harm, assault, and offensive conduct brought against him.
He is currently on bail.
