Man United drew 1-1 with Liverpool at home in an enthralling game on Sunday.
The draw means there are just five points between United in sixth on 40 points and second-placed Tottenham on 45 points, with leaders Chelsea in front with 52.
At Old Trafford it was Liverpool who struck first through James Milner’s penalty, but a fantastic header from Zlatan Ibrahimovic levelled the scores with six minutes left on the clock.
It would have taken a brave man to bet against Milner scoring – the result of a Paul Pogba handball – considering he has scored each of his last 10 penalties in the Premier League.
But it’s Simon Mignolet who the visitors should thank for going in at half-time with their 1-0 lead intact, The goalkeeper made two superb saves to deny both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Ten minutes after the restart Anthony Martial was unlucky not to equalise when Mkhitaryan burst into the box on the right hand side, but the cross was too quick for the Frenchman to reach.
At the other end, David De Gea was alert to make sure Liverpool didn’t double their lead, with both Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana seeing their powerful shots saved.
And then in the final ten minutes Ibrahimovic got the all-important goal when he guided in a cross from the right after an initial effort from Maroune Fellaini cannoned off the post
