The Coca-Cola Bottling Company Limited, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR), has donated an amount of GH¢373,999 to the COVID-19 Private Sector Fund to help support individuals affected by the virus.
According to the Managing Director for West African Countries Business Unit, Felis Gomis, the company made a commitment to donate 10 pesewas of every single 1.5-litre Coca-Cola bottle to support the fund, and there is a need to remain faithful to that.
Mr. Gomis said the commitment is expected to end in June 2021, but the company has decided to extend it to December 2021. He said COVID-19 is not yet over, and to appreciate the effort of stakeholders taking up the challenge they decided to join hands together.
“The reason for our extension is simple; we believe that we are not yet over with this COVID-19 and no one knows when it will be getting to a better situation. We are seeing day by day new variants, and so we believe that we need to continue joining our efforts,” he said.
Managing Trustee for the COVID-19 Private Sector Fund, Senyo Hosi, said this is the company’s third contribution to the Fund. To him, extending the support to December is a good idea because the facility will require certain maintenance, as it continues to remain the centre that hosts most of the critical COVID-19 cases.
He added that the support by Coca-Cola remains fundamental to sustaining the services provided by the Ghana Infectious Disease Centre (GIDC), especially the presence of a third wave of COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
