Germany has ushered in a new era of visa applications with the launch of a dedicated online portal on January 1, 2025.
This digital platform, hailed as a “real administrative revolution” by Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, promises to streamline the process for those seeking to work, study, or reunite with family in Germany.
The user-friendly portal, accessible at https://digital.diplo.de/visa, offers applicants a convenient way to access essential visa application documents. Applicants can navigate through 28 distinct national visa categories, ensuring they gather the necessary information specific to their situation.
This online system streamlines the application process by eliminating the need for lengthy paper forms and in-person submissions.
The portal’s global reach extends to all 167 German visa offices worldwide, ensuring accessibility for international applicants.
The Foreign Minister Baerbock also expressed her strong support for the new system, acknowledging it as a long-awaited reform. “Every year, Germany faces a significant shortage of skilled workers, exceeding 400,000 positions,” she stated.
Baerbock emphasized the importance of attracting skilled individuals to contribute to Germany’s growth. “We cannot afford to deter talented individuals from coming here and contributing their expertise due to cumbersome application procedures and lengthy waiting times,” she added.
