President Akufo-Addo has commended the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin for his role in the governance of the country.
He said despite the uniqueness of the 8th Parliament and the associated challenges, Mr Bagbin was able to steer affairs successfully.
“Mr Speaker, you and I have made history of a kind these past four years and I must acknowledge the role you played in keeping steady, the ship of state and the governance structures of our country. This was the first time the Executive has to deal with, not just a Parliament with the slimmest of majorities, but with a Speaker from the opposition party. ,” the President said.
The outgoing President said this during his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on January 3.
“Mr Speaker, we found a way to accommodate each other, and the government functioned successfully,” he added.
President Akufo-Addo used the occasion to, once again, congratulate the President-elect, John Mahama, on his re-lection for a second term.
“Mr. Speaker, I would like to take the opportunity of this august podium to congratulate again my friend, with whom I came into Parliament together for the first time in 1997, President-elect John Dramani Mahama, on his historic, comeback victory of 7th December 2024, assure him of my support, and that of all well-meaning Ghanaians, and wish him well in his
second (2nd) term as President of the Republic,” he promised.
