Otto Addo has highlighted Ghana’s inability to score goals as the primary reason for their recent struggles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Despite strong performances, the team has been unable to secure a win in their last three games, leaving their qualification hopes in jeopardy.
After a run of back-to-back victories in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR), the Black Stars have struggled to replicate that form in the AFCON qualifiers. Ghana currently sit third in Group F with just two points, behind leaders Angola (9 points) and Sudan (4 points).
In their last three matches, Ghana managed only one goal, coming in a 1-1 draw against Niger, while they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Angola and were held to a goalless draw by Sudan.
Addo acknowledged the effort and commitment from his players but stressed that scoring is the missing piece. “I think we showed in the last game we don’t have to look too much back. In terms of passion and willingness to win, it was there, but the last thing missing was scoring goals,” he said.
The coach remains optimistic, believing that once the team starts scoring, the results will follow.
“The boys are mentally ready. This is the only thing missing. We have to score goals and believe in ourselves. It’s very important. If this belief comes, goals will come. We just have to show consistency.”
Ghana will face Sudan in a must-win clash in Libya on Tuesday, October 15, as they seek their first victory of the AFCON 2025 qualifying campaign.
