Midfielder Dani Olmo insists that Spain will have to “be the best” on Sunday night in Berlin, if they want to clinch a fourth European title when they face England in the highly-anticipated EURO 2024 final.
La Roja have been the most impressive team in the competition, scoring thirteen goals so far, while dominating any opposition that comes their way.
Nonetheless, the job is still far from done, and a fourth European title could be on the cards should Luis de la Fuente’s men edge England on Sunday night in Berlin.
Speaking ahead of the game, Dani Olmo, one of Spain’s most convincing performers so far, and the current top scorer of the Euros (3) believes that should La Roja be at their best level, all that awaits them will be glory.
“We can always improve, but we are preparing for the final in the same way as always. It hasn’t been an easy road, but it is what it is. To win a competition like this, you have to be the best. We had to do it against Germany, who were at home, France in the semis, and now England in the final. There are no excuses, we are one step away from glory,” he said.
England have made it to back-to-back finals in the European Championship under head coach Gareth Southgate and look the underdogs in the final.
Olmo, 26, however, believes the Three Lions pose a huge threat, indicating Jude Bellingham as one of the threats La Roja will have to deal with to win the final.
“It’s a final, I don’t think he will miss out on playing just because he is physically tired. He is an important player for England and he has shown it in this European Championship, so he is a player we must watch closely, just like other England players too,” he added.
The Three Lions have a vast amount of quality at their disposal to hurt Spain should Southgate get his tactics right, and Sunday’s battle will be one to remember for both teams in the coming years.
However, Spain remain favourites for the final, and the game is sure to become the talking point for many football fans in the world.
