Ghana winger Fatawu Issahaku is set to experience Premier League football next season as Leicester City have agreed to make his loan transfer permanent.
The Foxes have opted to activate the €17m buy option clause stipulated in the loan agreement with Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon.
This development was verified by Sporting manager Ruben Amorim, who stated, “We will make money. Talented players [including Fatawu Issahaku] who don’t adapt here will move to other clubs and give us added value, it’s our system.”
Issahaku encountered difficulties at Sporting following his move from his hometown club, Steadfast FC, in April 2022. Despite securing a five-year contract with a release clause of 60 million euros, he struggled to establish himself in the first team, prompting him to seek opportunities elsewhere.
Issahaku joined Championship side Leicester City on a season-long loan in August 2023. Despite initial scepticism regarding his adaptation to the Championship’s demands, the winger has thrived.
Recently, he clinched the title of Leicester City’s Young Player of the Season, showcasing his prowess by netting six goals and providing 13 assists, a contribution instrumental in securing the Foxes’ promotion to the Premier League.
With his focus now set on the forthcoming season, Issahaku anticipates his debut in the Premier League, a well-deserved reward for his dedication and performance.
Meanwhile, Steadfast FC stand to gain from Issahaku’s permanent transfer to Leicester City.
