Former President John Dramani Mahama demonstrated his incompetence for not being able to collate his own election results in the 2016 and 2020 general elections, a Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu Bempah, has said.
Mr Bempah said Mr Mahama has no business attacking the competence of the Electoral Commission and its chair Jean Mensa when he has no clue about how to gather his results.
His comments come after Mr Mahama said that one thing that struck him in his pre-election mission in Nigeria for the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) was the confidence all the candidates and parties expressed in the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).
He said all the parties testified that INEC had listened and taken their concerns on board.
Unfortunately, he said in a statement “I can’t say same for my Electoral Commission (EC), which was once among the best election management agencies in the world.
“The hostility of the Chairperson of the EC and her other Commissioners to one political party is legendary. How I wish our own EC can inspire the same level of confidence in all its stakeholders.”
He added that “Regrettably, I am not hopeful this will happen when we have an EC that has blatantly spurned all efforts by the National Peace Council to host a meeting between the Commission and the two major political parties, the NDC and NPP.”
Replying to Mr John Mahama, Mr Ernest Owusu Bempah told 3news.com that the former President ” has exhibited his incompetence in opposition for attacking the EC, it tells that he doesn’t have clue about elections, he is the only incumbent president who lost elections by over 1 million votes when he even appointed the Electoral Commissioner, unprecedented in the history of Africa, and Ghana.
“It tells you he is incompetent and he has no business to attack the EC.”
Bempah added “he lost over one million votes so he has no business. If he has anything to criticize he should criticize his incompetence, he can’t even collate his results, as we speak now NDC has no clue how to collate results, they lied to their supporters and went to court to waste everybody’s time.
“John Mahama bastardized the judiciary, attacked the EC and state institutions and vilified traditional authorities and the clergy, he has still not learned, he should leave the EC alone.”
