Chief Census Methodologist at the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), Johnson Owusu Kagya, is urging government to pay more attention to the use of data in the process of policy formulation.
Making references to the provisional results of the 2021 Population and Housing Census, Mr Owusu Kagya called for urgent interventions to address developmental challenges facing the greater Accra region.
“Now per our data, the Greater Accra is the largest. Looking at the challenges facing the region, from building in water ways, unplanned developments, poor sanitation and traffic in most parts of the capital, it is time for Government to improve on the usage of our data as a basis for policy formulation.
“The situation has improved as compared to previous years, where not much attention was being paid to the data we publish after our research, but I believe it can be improved upon. The information minister assured that government will use our data as much as possible in formulating policies so we hope that assurance is carried through” he told host of 3fm Sunrise Morning show Alfred Ocansey.
