Spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng has accused the media of partiality regarding the role of the Acting Auditor-General (A-G), Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu producing the 2020 Auditor-General’s report.
According to Mr Kwarteng, unlike the works of the former Auditor-General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo which gets all the attention from the media, the work of the Ag A-G was not given any priority from any media outlet.
He added that, but for President Akufo-Addo’s commendation of the Ag A-G, Mr Asiedu would not have been given any attention by the media.
“Bottom line is that this man has done a work but for the president mentioning it which media station really reported it, just like when Domelevo just released something into the media and the media picks it and it starts flying which media station mentions that this man has done a tremendous work?” he quizzed.
He justified the President’s comments that the Ag A-G has done things that “the most touted” Domelevo could not do. He said the President’s comments implied a recognition that other leaders are equally doing great things to help curb the problem of corruption in the country.
“So what the president did was actually to say that beyond Mr Domelevo or beyond whatever, we have also equally competent people who are also managing the affairs of this country”.
He has therefore justified the president’s removal of Mr Domelevo from office and the subsequent appointment of Jonhson Akuamoah Asiedu.
Background
Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu was appointed by the Audit Service Board after his predecessor; Daniel Domelevo was forced by the President to proceed on accumulated 167-day leave back in August last year.
He was however forced to retire from office on March 3 in a letter from the presidency shortly after his return to official duties.
