The Natugnia Basic School in the Kasena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region has received a donation of 25 desks following a viral video showing pupils sitting on the bare floor.
On February 17, 2021, TV3 Ghana shared a situational citizen report on the plight of the school.
The report among other things showed pupils learning on a floor. It also showed the building had major structural defects.
Desmond Kampoe, a teacher at the Naaga Basic School in the same district who had previously used social media to get desks for his school decided to do same for the Natugnia school.
According to him, he got in touch the teacher who first shared the video and proceeded to show it to “friends and acquaintances seeking for help to solve the problem”.
“Thankfully Mr. Edem and his friends listened and came together and funded 25 dual desks”, he added.
He said he also had support from other people to pull off the project.
“Mr Alfred Nabaare, a native of Navrongo offered us a free truck to transport the furniture to the school premises. He did not just give us the truck but joined hands with me to load the furniture to the truck, conveyed the furniture to the school location and together offloaded it again.”
The furniture, according to him was presented to the head teacher of the school, Azelayaga Anuga, who expressed gratitude for the gesture.
However, the school is still in need of more.
