Member of Parliament for Sekondi Constituency Andrew Egyapa Mercer is set for approval as the Deputy Minister for Energy.
This follows a consensus reached by the Appointments Committee of Parliament over his nomination.
After his vetting on Monday, June 7, Mr Mercer had to wait a bit longer for a decision on his nomination owing to some answers he gave regarding his “direct or indirect” involvement in the botched attempt by the Power Distribution Service (PDS) Ghana Limited to take over the operations of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
“You can disclose an interest where one exists but if you don’t have any interest, I fail to see how you can be called upon to declare an interest,” Mr Egyapa Mercer replied a question by the Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, to declare his interest in the whole deal as a director of TG Energy Solutions.
He was said to be engaged in a conflict of interest situation.
But according to reports, issues regarding his interest in the PDS agreement have been referred to the Privileges Committee of Parliament to handle.
