A teacher at the Naaga Basic School in the Kasena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region, Desmond Kampoe, who recently was in the limelight for using social media to impact his school has been nominated for Humanitarian Awards Global.
He has been nominated together with others in the Outstanding Philanthropist category.
Through the instrumentality of Mr. Kampoe, the woes of the Naaga Basic School were exposed to the public and benevolent individuals and organisations donated desks to help pupils who used to learn on the bare floor.

Before this, he had made a personal donation of PPE to some pupils in his school when it became evident that the poor pupils were exposed to Covid-19. Pictures of his donation went viral attracting the attention of many who also took interest in supporting the school and the pupils.
On the side, Mr. Kampoe, together with friends also runs a philanthropic project called “Sound Mind” through which he takes care of mentally derailed persons in Navrongo (his hometown).
According to him, he received the news of his nomination for the prestigious awards with mixed feelings as he did not imagine that what he had been doing in his own small way was big enough for someone to have noticed and nominated him. He said it had never occurred to him he would be recognized and acknowledged for what he does.
‘It’s true I share lots of the things I do on my social media handles, but this is only to inspire others to do same, so to get recognized was the least of my expectations. I least expected it”, he said.
He suspects his recent strides to solve the furniture problem in his school may be what put the spotlight on him to have been nominated.
“I think I got noticed when some few stories about me went viral on major news portals like TV3, Starr FM, GHONE, Citinews, Ghanaweb and many more. Notable among the things that were in the news was my donation of COVID-19 PPE to the Naaga Primary school where I teach and also about an initiative I took to resolve a long standing furniture issue in the school. I want to believe an individual who followed the trend nominated me for the award”, he guessed.
Mr. Kampoe believes he stands a good chance at emerging a winner just as any of the other nominees, but for him, the nomination in itself “is an endorsement, encouragement and an inspiration to me to keep walking in the path I choose to walk in”. He is convinced that any support for him to win the ultimate would mean supporting him to give back and impact society positively.
Humanitarian Awards Global exists to identify, honour and celebrate a cross-section of the nations most influential Non-Profit Organizations from a wide range of industries, who are committed to the growth and community service.
