Water shortages plaguing the country has hit hard at Tema Residents forcing them to fetch rainwater collected in gutters for their homes.
A picture of indigenes of Tema Newtown carrying gallons and fetching water from an open gutter has sparked outrage on social media. According to reports, some areas of Tema have not had their taps flowing for more than a week now.
Subsequently, homeowners with access to water are scamming the inhabitants with a spike in water sales. A big bucket of water is sold for 3ghcedis whilst the big yellow gallon (aka Kuffor gallon) goes for 5 Ghana cedis.
These exorbitant prices have cause residents to go for rainwater collected in open gutters because they cannot afford to buy clean water regularly.
The issue of water shortages is fast becoming problematic in the country as other areas complain of similar situations.
