A joint team of officers from the Ghana Police Service and operatives of the National Security on Tuesday, April 20 stormed the premises of two satellite television stations in Kasoa in the Central Region to shut them down.
The two stations – Thunder TV and Ice1 TV – are said to be illegally transmitting without licenses.
The team also arrested owner of Thunder TV, Patience Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, and seized the equipment used in transmission.
The move was at the instance of the National Communications Authority (NCA).
Nana Agradaa, a fetish priestess, usually advertises her ‘Sika Gari’ on her TV station. Sika Gari, she claims, is a personal god which multiplies money after some rituals are made.
She has admitted to the practice and is currently in custody, assisting with further investigations.
The influx of unregulated content on the country’s airwaves has led to the promotion of practices said to affect public order, public morality and the rights and reputation of others.
As such, efforts are underway to rid the system of this canker and reduce overcrowding on Ghana’s airwaves.
