President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has cut sod for the construction of residential facilities for Court of Appeal judges based in Kumasi.
This is to enable the judges have decent accommodation and enhance justice delivery.
“Presently, there is shortage of decent housing to accommodate judges and magistrates within the Kumasi metropolis, thereby posing a great challenge to effective justice delivery.
“As a result of the housing deficit, Court of Appeal judges empaneled to determine appeals have been compelled to operate on an itinerant basis. This has an adverse effect of speedy disposal of cases,” Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah noted.
The GH¢76.5 million project situated at Danyame comprises of 20-unit 4-bedroom town houses, six 3-bedroom apartments with quarters for directors and supporting administrative staff of the judiciary.
It also includes sporting facilities and swimming pool among other recreational facilities.
Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Daniel Kweku Botwe, said his Ministry will liaise with the contractors to ensure the project is completed on time.
“My ministry will follow through this project and in exactly eight months, we shall be here to commission the facility.”
President Akufo-Addo said his government will continue to implement policies to advance the rule of law.
“It should be the ambition of our generation to build a new Ghanaian civilization where the rule of law is not a slogan but an operating principle for the development of our state; where the separation of powers is real and meaningful; where public officials behave with honesty and trust; where the liberties and rights of our people are fully protected; and where law and order provide a firm basis for our social and economic development.”
The project is being executed by Construction Ambassadors Limited and expected to be completed between eight and twelve months, beginning April 1, 2021.
