The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the government to double efforts in delivering justice on a number of crime-related cases in the country.
The party says because the resolution of some of these cases seems to have dragged on interminably, the perpetuation of the culture of impunity appears to be encouraged.
These were contained in a statement issued on Friday, April 9 by the NDC in commiserating with the family of an 11-year-old boy murdered under strange circumstances in Kasoa in the Central Region.
Ishmael Mensah Abdallah was murdered by two teenagers, who claimed they were lured by a fetish priestess to bring GH¢5,000 and human body parts to get rich.
In expressing shock and disbelief about the news, the NDC condemned the growing craze among Ghanaians, especially the youth, for the acquisition of quick wealth “without the attendant hard, morally sound and lawful means of obtaining same”.
“We deem this development as a dangerous trend that has to be condemned and discouraged by all and sundry,” the statement signed by Director of Communications Kakra Essamuah said.
“It is a development which the NDC is unquestionably opposed to, or else we risk bequeathing to the youth a practice and a lifestyle that cannot build this nation.”
The country’s largest opposition party advised the youth to look out for honest, hardworking, and accomplished persons as their role models.
“Wealth which has been improperly obtained, should never be an attraction for the upcoming youth of this great nation.
“In this regard, we call on the Akufo-Addo government to speed up investigations and crank the wheels of justice so that the country can rid itself of the odious reminder of this unfortunate event.”
The party urged authorities to ensure that the bereaved family is comforted “by the swiftness of the application of the law to punish the perpetrators and all who may be behind this dastardly murder”.
