Some executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asawase Constituency in the Ashanti Region have taken a swipe at the National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, for making what they call derogatory statements against the Minority Caucus of Parliament.
Asawase Constituency Communication Director Iddrisu Mohamed, speaking exclusively on Akoma FM‘s morning show GhanAkoma, questioned the integrity of Sammy Gyamfi to query the party’s leadership in Parliament, blaming him for the party’s defeat in the 2020 elections.
This comes on the back of a social media post by Sammy Gyamfi, who expressed disappointment in the leadership of the Minority Caucus for endorsing three ministerial appointees who were earlier rejected by the Appointments Committee.
Sammy Gyamfi in his Facebook post described the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu and Asawase MP Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka as sellouts for leading the Minority to endorse Fisheries Minister-designate Hawa Koomson, Information Minister-designate Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and Agric Minister-designate Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, who were earlier rejected by the Appointment Committees of Parliament.
It seems the post didn’t go down well with a section of the NDC members in the Asawase Constituency.
Led by their Communication Director, Idrisu Mohamed, the Asawase Constituency members descended heavily on Sammy Gyamfi for describing their MP as “selfish for betraying the party for their parochial interest instead of that of the party”.
Idrisu Mohamed cautioned Sammy Gyamfi “to desist from such undeserving misconduct of a national officer of our great party”.
The aggrieved party foot soldier ascribed the party’s defeat in the 2020 elections to the misconduct of Sammy Gyamfi and some party leaders, adding that “your baseless and misplaced outburst contributed immensely to our failure as a party in election 2020 which subsequently have left us bruises”.
He further advised Sammy Gyamfi to rather think of how to correct the damages his actions and inactions have caused the party, than to pitch the grassroots against their highly cherished Members in Parliament.
